A large-scale fire broke out in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in the Russian Far East on the territory of the sea station opposite the city administration in the evening of 8 March. The fire covered 5 thousand square metres, reports obozrevatel.com.

The scale of the emergency incident was admitted in the Ministry of emergency Situations of the Russian Federation. The department involved in the elimination of the fire 55 specialists and 15 units of machinery. There were no casualties.

According to one of the versions of local Telegram channels, the hangar warehouse on the territory of the port could catch fire. Fire and smoke was visible throughout the central part of the city.

"The units of the first, second and specialised fire and rescue units, a task force, employees of the search and rescue squad of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for Kamchatka Krai, as well as personnel of two military units left on the second, increased, rank of the call," the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for Kamchatka Krai said.

Late in the evening of 8 May, Russian emergency workers reported that they had extinguished the blaze in a "one-storey concrete building with a gable roof". The port was said to have resumed normal operations.

The Rosmorrechflot, which manages the port, said its infrastructure was not damaged by the fire.
