'There Was No Soviet Semiofficial Attitude At These Events'
VIACHASLAU SIUCHYK

The Belarusian opposition activist talked about a holiday that should replace May 9.

Is May 9 a holiday for Belarusians? Belarusian opposition politician, head of the Razam Solidarity Movement, Viachaslau Siuchyk, in a comment for the Charter97.org website, expressed the opinion that a Day of Remembrance for the Victims and Heroes of World War II should appear in our country:

— I would like to remind you that the Second World War affected not only the whole of Belarus — there is not a single Belarusian family in which there would be no victims due to this war. As soon as Belarus got rid of the power of the Communists, a tradition arose (it was started by the Belarusian Association of the Military, which was headed at that time by Mikalai Statkevich) to hold rallies on May 8, where the memory of the victims and the heroes of the Second World War was honored. There was no Soviet semiofficial attitude at these events, which Stalin came up with with on May 9. Of course, Belarus is among the winners over the Nazi regime, but it was a victory for the whole world, not just for Belarusians.

I was always proud that the Razam Solidarity Movement initially joined these actions. In 1996, another tradition arose — near the monument to Barys Akrestsin, we took a collective photo. Those who have been illegally arrested over the past year and thrown into the isolation ward located on Akrestsina Lane. Often these were such famous people as Valery Shchukin, Mikalai Statkevich, Pavel Seviarynets. Many more in the 30 years of the dictatorship have such pictures near the monument to the young pilot who died fighting against the Nazis. Today, unfortunately, a concentration camp is named after him, in which Belarusians are cruelly mocked.

My opinion is absolutely unequivocal — Belarusians should have a Day of Remembrance for the Victims and Heroes of the Second World War. Not Stalin's May 9, but May 8. It should be clear that the Belarusian regime today is based on Stalinism and Hitlerism. Lukashenka's words that not everything is so unambiguous with Hitler, he was talking about himself. At the moment when he was giving interviews to German journalists, he was already a criminal, completely illegally seizing power over the Belarusian people.

It is very unfortunate that this character still leads Belarus. All these years, representatives of Germany and other countries contacted him, kept trade and political ties. This is actually very scary, because Nazism was not finally defeated. Iit was revived with the help of Lukashenka, Putin and communism. This is a rather wild combination of two totalitarian ideologies that blossomed precisely because of the monster Lukashenka.

— Many politicians refused to go to Moscow for the parade on May 9, but not Lukashenka. What is the reason?

— He can refuse this trip in his situation, there are two interesting points here. We, the leadership of the BPF, regarded Lukashenka's coming to power as the coming to power of the lower and middle levels of the former Soviet special services through the presidential elections. It was a training ground that practically prepared Putin's coming to power in Russia. Naturally, the center of the empire is in Moscow, and Lukashenka had dreams of leading this empire even in Yeltsin's time. But they crumbled when Putin appeared.

They do not like each other, to put it mildly, they conflict with each other all the time. Let us recall the gas wars, the scenarios of the last electoral farces, which were different for Putin and Lukashenka.

However, Lukashenka clearly understands that his masters are in Moscow. Now there is an interesting situation there. This is my second point. After all, it is obvious that in 2020 he took on an obligation to Putin, that this was his last "election". Now Lukashenka will get out to once again conduct an electoral farce on his election.
